TITICACA FOLKORE BLACK & WHITE

On the small island of Amantaní, situated in the Peruvian Part of the Tititcaca Lake, time seems to stand still. The approximately 3600 Quechua on the island are living from cultivation of just a few plants as the climatical conditions are aggravating. Famous are the textiles produced here. However,  the increasing tourism and the economical possibilities which come with it, have caused migration of especially younger Quechua towards the mainland. The families remaining are torn between keeping their old traditions but at the same time enable a different life for their offspring. Many fear that within a few generations Amantaní might be a completely different place.
